About photogenicity, crooked hands and a bottle of dry

Since I began to take pictures of non-professional models, I constantly find myself catching up on the fact that, being on the street, I look at the faces of people passing by me. Of course, mostly girls. Besides the fact that I look at them through the eyes of a man, I look at them as a photographer. I fantasize how you could take a picture, in what way, how to put the light, how to emphasize the merits and hide the flaws … Trying to understand what kind of person is in character, temperament, intellect … All of this plays a huge role when shooting. After all, not on the passport, I take off, in the end. And I try to transfer the internal through the external …

My own experience has shown that external beauty, especially standard, à la Barbie, for example, not only does not contribute to getting a good picture, but on the contrary – prevents it. How many times did I encounter inexperienced models that, while being quite attractive in life, turned into some kind of parody of themselves during a photo shoot. Apparently, after watching glossy magazines, they began to play “professional” models (get up in the same magazine postures, make the same plump lips and languid eyes, brrrr). Than completely crossed out all my efforts to pull out of them at least a drop of naturalness. The fact that the eyes are a mirror of the soul could have been completely forgotten. And how not to fight, everything was useless … The stereotype, however. It’s a shame …

On the other hand, at first glance, an unremarkable, shy girl, whom, it seems, was around a thousand, was revealed at a photo shoot by such a bright and unique creation that I could only press the button of the device in time, almost without prompting do. Here you are not pranked emotions, and natural plastic movements, everything is in harmony. Dream, and only)))

So, then, what is it – photogenic! She is not trying her best to look as good as any fashionable magazine beauty. Photogenic is the ability to be sincere and open. No matter how pathetic these words may sound. This openness and sincerity allows the photographer to better understand their model. Let him look into her heart and already there to find the image that is most organic. Moving from internal to external, and not vice versa, allows us to portray a person as he really is.

So what does it depend on – photogenic? I do not cease to convince those who consider themselves non-photogenic that there are no non-photogenic people! If a person is bad (mostly in his own opinion) is obtained in the photo, then here I see three main reasons:

1 Curved hands of the photographer. This means not so much the inability to handle the camera as the inability to set up a model for shooting, his inability to liberate, instill confidence, infect with creativity, etc. … A good photographer is a good psychologist. Without this in any way. If not, then it is better not to do photography at all. Empty

2 The model has stereotypes. It is when a model is sitting in her head that everything should be exactly this way and not otherwise, and you cannot knock it out of her pretty head with anything! This is the most unfavorable case))) Especially if the model is spoiled by male attention. Especially if spoiled since childhood in general. Then write, gone … Sometimes with this option, the photo session ends in hysteria and petty scandal)))

3 The tightness of the model. I will not explain. All this feeling is more or less familiar. We all know how difficult it is, being shy, to open up in front of a stranger. With the tightness of the photo shoot they struggle in different ways – from casual conversation to drinking a bottle of dry))) But an experienced photographer will always be able to liberate the model. This is his nekrivorukost))) And inexperienced, thanks to all the same dry, he liberates himself, thereby increasing his creative potential)))
