Today, for sure there are no people left who do not know what a selfie is. This is not surprising: the Internet, in particular, pages on social networks, is full of such photos. However, for those who are still not in the know, we inform you: selfies are self-portrait, taken on the phone.

There are two ways to make such a picture:

With the help of the front camera of the smartphone (the main disadvantage of this method – the eyes in the resulting images do not look into the frame);
With the help of the interesting and useful invention of the Japanese – self-stick (selfie-stick).
The story of the birth of a stick for selfie
The prototype of the modern selfie stick was born in 1995! Then this invention was called one of the most useless. But times are changing, and in one of the articles of the popular TIME magazine, Selfie-Stick finally gets the status of one of the best inventions of 2014. And if three years ago, the majority still looked at the owners of such sticks as weird people, now everyone knows how useful this gadget can be.

Agree that, for example, it is not always possible for you to ask a third party to take a picture of the whole company together. And if you are traveling alone, such a stick is simply necessary, as asking someone to capture you near each sight is simply inconvenient.

What kind of selfie stick and what are the advantages of each of them?
The construction of the selfie stick is, in principle, similar to the classic monopod for a digital camera. However, it is slightly modified. What variants of sticks exist today? Pay attention to the most popular of them:

The classic version is a telescopic monopod. This is one of the first models of devices for creating selfies: a steel stick, folding according to the principle of a telescope from 23 to 109 cm. The end of such a stick is topped with a phone holder. To take a selfie, you need to select the shooting mode with a timer on your smartphone, fix the phone on a stick, select the most successful angle and wait until the timer works.

The advantages of this option are its low cost, ease and length of the stick, allowing you to take a photo in full growth. Among the shortcomings is the lack of a control button, however, it is also easily eliminated using a bluetooth remote control.

Another option is a selfie stick that connects to a smartphone via an audio jack. The principle of its operation is as follows: the phone needs to be fixed on a stick, the monopod’s wire is inserted into the audio connector, press the button on the stick, selecting the desired angle.

The advantages of this model can also be called low cost, ease and, of course, the presence of a button. The main drawback is incompatibility with phones whose audio jack differs from 3.5 mm.

A standard selfie stick with a button resembles the first option, but it has undoubted advantages:

Built-in bluetooth transmitter and button availability;
Battery charging in less than 1 hour;
Reliable fastening securing the phone on both sides.
Such a stick is also quite democratic, but its main drawback is that recharging is often required.

Multifunctional stick – one of the most interesting options. Its peculiarity consists in the following: it consists of four main components: the mount, the telescopic stick, the handle on which the buttons are located, the tripod (tripod).

You can take pictures with such a stick not only by holding it in your hands, but also in a stationary mode, controlling the shooting remotely.

Other advantages include compatibility with any smartphone and stylish design. The disadvantages include a decent cost and fast discharging device.

Monopod for smartphones and action cameras. There are no wires and a bluetooth module in this device. The fact is that initially this model was intended only for action cameras. However, bundled with the phone, it also has several important advantages:

Its length is 123 cm, which allows you to cover more space in the frame;
Each segment of the telescopic stick is fixed by a clip, so that it does not fold at the wrong moment;
You can install not only any smartphone on this stick, but also a small camera.
Disadvantages: the lack of buttons (eliminated with the help of a Bluetooth remote control), weight and cost.

What to look for when choosing a selfie stick:

Since this is a relatively new invention, when buying it you should pay attention to certain parameters. Here we highlight five main criteria:

The quality of the materials from which made monopod. Do not trust the low-grade plastic and thin stick metal. If possible, hold the device in your hands to make a conclusion about its strength.
Mounting quality. Here you should pay attention to the fastening screw, which can be of two types: with inch thread and metric. This parameter must be announced by the seller. On the inch thread you can fix not only a smartphone, but also a photo and video camera, while a metric thread.
